Who Should Attend
This course is mandatory to all personnel who are working in the Oil and Petrochemical plants (in particular, Jurong Island) in Singapore.

Previously known as Oil and Petrochemical Safety Orientation Course (OPSOC). This course is to induct employees on the safety regulations, hazards and responsibilities within the Oil and Petrochemical Industry and highlight the precautions that must be adhered to maintain a safe work environment.

Course Objective

At the end of the programme, you will be able to:

  • identify the roles and responsibilities of an employee under the WSH act
  • identify and prevent fire and explosion hazards at the workplace
  • comply with safe work practices and control measures for material handling
  • comply with safe work practices and control measures for mechanical and electrical works
  • comply with safe work practices and control measures when working on Specialised Operations
  • comply with safe work practices and control measures when working at heights
  • comply with safe work practices and control measures when working in a confined space
Assumed Skills & Knowledge / Pre-requisites

Learners must be above 18 years of age and are assumed to:

  • have a basic knowledge of the relevant sector of work
  • be able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills (ES) level 2 (Applies to English Courses ONLY)
  • be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to ES level 2 (Applies to English Courses ONLY)
  • be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES level 2; and
  • be medically fit
Course Outline

On completion of this unit, learners will have the knowledge and application skills to carry out hazard identification and risk assessment, comply with the safety and health management system, co-ordinate a permit-to-work system, and carry out safety inspections and investigations.

Fees and Funding

This course is applicable for SkillsFuture Funding up to 70%.

*From 1 Jan 2022, SkillsFuture course funding will be revised to a baseline of 50% subsidy, with an additional 20% subsidy (up to 70% subsidy) for SMEs and Mid-career individuals (Singapore citizens above 40 years old) . Do note that the funding amount advised is not final and is subject to changes.

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

Based on the successful completion of the course and assessment, a Statement of Attainment (SOA) from the Skillfuture Singapore (SSG) and a Safety Pass from Wong Fong Academy Pte Ltd will be awarded to the trainee.
